Pro 23:31-35 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Pro 20:1 Wine causes mocking, and beer causes fights; everyone led astray by them lacks wisdom.

Alcohol is responsible for many problems in society. God list them as, causing us to sexually sin, have accidents, mock and tease others, causes violence and fights. The world makes it out to be so appealing, if you don’t drink people say you are weird, there is a lot off pressure around drinking. Sober up, be wise, don’t you become another voice for a thing that causes harm. We are called by God to draw people away from harm, not encourage others in it.

Rom 13:10 No one who loves others will harm them. So love is all that the Law demands.

Php 3:20 For our citizenship is in Heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ

Citizenship is often prized for the benefits it bestows upon the holder. Many people from less well off nations seek the citizenship of wealthy nations with good currencies, and will make sacrifices to obtain it. Some people will use deceit, lies, or compromise their standards to obtain the prize of citizenship. Think about the benefits of heaven, it is richer than any nation, is filled with all the best of this earth, is full of vibrant life, and it lasts forever. A citizen of the poorest nation on earth who knows God is better off than a citizen of the wealthiest country who’s eternal citizenship is one of separation from life. How does one obtain the citizenship of heaven, not by lies, compromise and deceit but by simply receiving God’s invitation of life, allowing God’s spirit into your life will save you from uch sorrow.

Gal 5:16-24 But I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another; if you don’t walk in the spirit you will be controlled by dark desires. If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under strict Laws [that bring fear and punishment, but rather you take on the nature and attributes of God]. So you know, what are the works of the flesh? They are: adultery, sex before marriage, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, fighting others, jealousies, angers, rivalries, divisions, false ideas about God, envyings, murders, drunkenness, wild parties, and things like these; which I tell you now beforehand as a warning, that the ones practicing such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the result of having God’s Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. Against such things there is not a law. The ones belonging to Christ have put to death the flesh with its passions and lusts.

I have an encouragement for all the women out there. I was reading proverbs last night and found an interesting thing. The conclusion of proverbs is a passage that praises women. It mentions the traits of a Godly woman, as caring for family, astute business women with skill in investing, kindness to family and open to the needs of the poor. It is not lowering the status of women, but rather putting into remembrance for every person who reads proverbs the skill and benefit of a woman who fears God. God wants his women blessed. The conclusion of a book always contains the thing that you want people to remember, people may forget the content, but the conclusion is remembered. Maybe just maybe God wants the skills and abilities of women on the minds of those men who read the book.

Freedom is not the ability to do whatever you want. Freedom is the ability to do what is right and beneficial at all times and enjoying doing it.

Mat 5:28 But I say to you, Everyone looking at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Pornography is one example of bondage. It is not real. It does not do anything helpful. It does not do the dishes, it does not do the cooking, it does not help raise the family. If a man had his desire fulfilled in reality it would ruin his marriage and relationships. In reality it is already ruining his relationships, causing his wife to feel unworthy and unloved. It is adultery - it is sharing of a heart with another, not fully respecting and being committed to ones wife.

For the single man pornography sets his goal too high, he is always looking for the perfectly sexy woman to fulfil his desire. He sets his eye on that which never will be. God says:

1Th 4:4-5 each one of you to know to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, even as also the nations do, not knowing God;

We are to be committed to honourable behaviour. Respecting women for their talents, abilities, character, achievements, and even their child bearing and raising ability. Pornography steals love from our partners. Be honourable, desire freedom.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Jesus said his goal was to give us rest. In the Old Testament God compared himself to the gods of the day saying, he would carry us, rather than us have to carry heavy idols.

Isa 46:4 Even to old age I am He; and I will bear to gray hair; I made, and I will carry; and I will bear and deliver.

Christianity is not about what we can do for God. It is not about us doing a set of good deeds to get into heaven. We don’t have to carry a heavy load. God said “I made, and I will carry, I will bear and deliver”. God wants to deliver us from every trouble and difficulty. He also wants us to enjoy life. God is love, and love serves others. If you enjoy football, God wants you to watch the game, if you enjoy fishing he wants you to go. All we need to be careful of is addiction, we get addicted to things we enjoy. Addiction isolates us, while we may be enjoying our life it can cause others to suffer. People don’t need us around 24 hours a day, but if we are isolating our selves all the time, we need to spend less time with our hobbies and more time with those we love.

Luk 10:40-42 But Martha was distracted about much serving. And coming on she said, Lord, is it not a care to You that my sister left me alone to serve? Then tell her that she should help me. But answering Jesus said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, But there is need of only one; and Mary chose the good part, which shall not be taken from her.

Martha was worried and troubled about many things. Note Jesus said there is only need of one thing. We often neglect that one thing. The bible says the fruit of the Spirit, is love, Joy and peace. But note Martha did not have these things it was not that she was less a child of God, but she had neglected that which would bring her peace.

Rom 8:13-14 for if you live according to flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the practices of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

A warning to Christians was that if you live a purely earthy life it will lead to death, not necessarily eternal death, although it may, but you will have dead emotions, worry, anxiety, fears. We must be led by God, dwelling in His presence, to have the fruit of the Spirit, to have peace, love and joy.

Mat 6:31-34 Then do not be anxious, saying, What may we eat? Or, what may we drink? Or, what may clothe us? For after all these things the nations seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Then do not be anxious for tomorrow.

Note Jesus cure for worry and anxiety, seek God, and everything else will be added to you. We don’t just automatically get rid of worry we need to seek God first. Take note of Jesus words to his disciples about prayer.

Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is eager, but the flesh is weak.

There is an eagerness, a life, a vibrancy about life that you get when you set aside time to pray. Note that if we don’t pray we will be swallowed up in weakness, weakness that may lead to sin. Worry, fear, fear of loss, can all lead to sin. God is gracious and forgives sin, but if we are to live a full life with nothing lacking we need to be seeking first the kingdom of God. This does not mean you have to give up good things, fun, family, or friends to become a full time prayer machine, but if you don’t pray, you will have worry, fears, lack, with out God’s presence your life will become unfruitful. If you are not a person who prays set aside some time at least a few times a week. God is the source of blessing, life, goodness, prosperity, if you ignore his presence in your life you are infact missing out. For me knowing God has been a great adventure, and I look forward to all that God can accomplish in my life.

Eph 3:20 Now to Him being able to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think, according to the power working in us

If you can think it God can do it. This power works in us, God has joined himself to you, and he says in the word, “Ask and you will receive”, lets not limit God, he spoke the world into existence by his word, our human situation is not hopeless it is filled with possibilities. Are you small, despised, helpless, God is no respecter of persons, his promises are for you too. Start to dream, and don’t dream small. God gives us normality, the average, the normal, but he is also the God to give the extra ordinary. Be happy with the ordinary things of life, but pray for more, refuse to see the mountain as unmovable, God says your faith can move mountains. Think of your plan, pray for it to succeed, if it fails, get a new plan, but never give in to failure, you are destined for success. Believe me God does not want you to fail.

Hag 2:16-17 When someone came to a pile of grain to get twenty bushels, there were only ten. Or when someone approached the wine press to siphon out 50 measures, there were only twenty. I punished you and everything that you undertook—with scorching wind, with mildew, and with hail, and you still did not return to me,' declares the LORD.

Have you ever forgotten God, just gone on living as if he does not exist. God is not happy to let you live in that state, while you think everything is going well you might not be motivated to change. When life starts getting tough you have to look for answers. God is not mean or judgmental; he is just trying to get your attention. I am not saying everything that goes bad is God trying to get you to pray more, or read your bible more. Some times life can just get rough. But if you don’t know God, and life is rough I would suggest invite him in, and things will get better. He is a God who blesses all who fear him.

Hag 2:19 Is there seed left in the granary? Up until now, neither the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, nor the olive tree has borne fruit, but from this very day I will bless you.'"

James 2:19-20 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Luke 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Did you know that believing there is a God is not what saves you. Even the demons who are going to hell believe that there is a God. True salvation will motivate good works, if you are truly born of Gods spirit you will not be living in the flesh, fulfilling fleshly emotions and desires. You will be obedient to God. Do the following things fill your life, then consider you may not be born again. Pray that God comes into your life and empowers you to live a Holy and effective life.

Gal 5:18-21 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

The bible says that as a Christian we will have a 100 fold blessing in this life time, that we will be more blessed in our relationships and possessions. However this does not mean we will become millionaires. The bible actually says the Christian life should be as follows:

Pro 30:8-9 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

The bible says we should not have poverty, nor riches. Excessive riches or blessing cause us to forget the common man, forget that people have to work for a living, forget that the common man is not excessively blessed. We are to have balance in our lives. We are to have humility, humility is not poverty, but it is enough of a struggle that we don't forget to rely upon God. I pray for every Christian that we walk in the full blessing of God, that we would be as blessed as we can be without becoming prideful, and forgetting our roots.

1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

Do you ever find yourself demanding your own way, forcing others to comply with your demands. Being stubborn and demanding is actually a sin, and when you act rebelliously to get your way through anger and manipulation you are moving out of Gods domain, into the domain frequented by the devil. Love on the other hand is presented in the bible as not “seeking her own”. If you have to deal with a demanding person “seek not your own”, do what they say easily without complaining, but yourself don’t demand of others.

1Co 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil.

Have you ever wondered what Gods will is for your life, what your calling is. Well God does have an overall plan for your life but it is not set in concrete and there is nothing he demands of You. What you will actually find is that God wants to fulfil our desires, and wants in life. If you have good desires, and good plans, it is Gods will to fulfil your plans. Not every desire we have will be answered, I remember as a youth seeing an attractive girl on a poster and praying God give me a wife that looks like that. God did not answer that prayer, but he did give me a wife whom I love. The bible says “ask what you will”, and “ask and you will receive so that your joy may be full”. God brings joy to our lives by fulfilling our desires. Want to be like God, appreciate, and get behind other peoples visions in life, not everyone has a spiritual vision, but everyone has goals, pray that peoples goals succeed, let them know they can succeed.

Mal 3:14-17 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts? And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered. Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

There are stages in life as a Christian and some times those times can be rough, you may walk through stages of mourning where you feel envious of others, you may even have the temptation to follow the world, to get things in the way that most people do, ignoring God, but fulfilling their needs. But if you fear God you can be assured that your needs will eventually be met, God will bring you out into rich fulfilment. In my life I went through some very rough times, times that I even despaired of life itself, but God bought me out into a happy and full life, his promise to bless me was fulfilled. I did not always cope well in the rough times, and even desired the ways of the world, and fell into sins on some occasions. Yet now looking back I can see God let me go through the hard times so I could sympathise with people who suffer, and see that God has the answer for those who suffer, a blessing in the end.

There are quite a few verses in the New Testament where Jesus said that he spoke in parables so that people outside would not understand, and would not return to him to be healed. This puzzled me why would God not want people to accept his teachings and receive the blessing. I asked God to understand this teaching. I then opened my bible and it opened to:

Isa 57:16-18 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made. For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

What you will see from the verse that I opened to was that if we have sin and things in our life before God "covetousness", then God will hide himself from us, in fact he will smite us, allow bad things to happen. But note it is not forever, it ends by saying God will restore comforts to the person, but we don't go unpunished for sin. So just put God first, don't sin, and your eyes will be open to God's blessing when it comes.

Luk 17:6-8 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

The key to having God move in your life, to do the impossible on your behalf, to receive blessing is to first serve the Lord, to minister to his things. The bible says to seek first the kingdom of God and then the other things will be added to you. You need to have a good and generous heart, and you don't get that by doing your own thing, you only get it as a reflection from God's presence. Seeking God brings you the ability to receive it brings you God himself.

1Co 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

What will you be remembered for, each of us make choices in life, those choices effect how people see us, and ultimately what we will be remembered as. Jesus will be remembered by many as one who gave of himself sacrificially, giving up his life, so we might have a complete and full life. We don’t need to be continually sacrificing our needs for others, but we should have a sacrificial life, a care for the disadvantaged, a love for others. What sacrifices do you need to make so that others can grow, so that others, can be benefited. As the bible says Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Php 2:4

Tit 2:13-14 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Jesus did not die so we can remain in sin, he died so we could be purified, to have a heart change, to be come zealous for doing good.

Mat 16:13-15 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

This is an age old question. Who is Jesus to you. Do you know him, as a friend, a councillor, or is he just some distant historical figure. You may have been a Christian for many years, if you are anything like me, you may have for many years just been taught about God but never really known him. I think I am still coming to know God, do I know him intimately, probably not, but I do know him a lot better than I used to. I used to think God was judgmental, and not very forgiving, I have now come to realise God is very gracious in forgiveness, merciful and generous toward us. If you have negative thoughts about God, I would say you are probably wrong, just thinking in a wrong way. My prayer for us all, is that we may know God as well as he know us. Here is an interesting verse:

Ecc 8:1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

Did you know that as you get to know God, who he really is, you will become happy, “your face will shine”, you will have a quiet boldness. If you find your self getting unhappy pray that you will come to know God in his love provision and mercy, a mercy and provision for you personally.

Mat 17:20 I tell you with certainty, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

With God anything is possible. We can ask for anything. You don’t need to have huge faith, faith the size of a small seed can move mountains. Not that we would ever need to move a physical mountain. But the principal is that anything, even what we see as impossible can be solved through our insignificant prayers. Expect and pray often and you will see the miraculous in your life. You only need a small seed of faith.

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful regarding their wrong deeds, and I will never again remember their sins."

Do you have trouble forgiving your self for sin. We God will not only forgive you he will force it from his memory. Have you ever had to force someone’s sin from your own mind, consciously causing it not to be mentioned. So it is with God, he consciously chooses to not remember our wrong doing. God’s not bringing up your faults, so try your hardest not to remember them your self. See your self as totally forgiven. Powerful, expectant, in good standing with God.

Tit 2:14 He gave himself for us to set us free from every wrong and to cleanse us so that we could be his special people who are enthusiastic about doing good deeds.

One of the first things we should ask our selves are a) are we free from sin (every wrong) b) are we enthusiastic about God. When you are enthusiastic about God, you don’t sin. That is the way the Christian life should be, exciting and free from guilt.

Eph 5:3-5 “But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, ..., has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God”.

We may have grown up with sexual joking, or habits of pornography, or use of sexual imagery, no matter what our past has been we need to strive as Christians for a totally pure mind set. We need to purge ourselves of all habits regarding sexuality, and set our minds on higher things, like encountering God, helping the poor and down trodden, saintly things.

Eze 18:17-18 “That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity”.

We don’t need to live our lives based upon our parents past, even if their past was not good, ours can be bright and hopeful. How do we change our heritage, by following God’s commands, we can have a good future, God has promised to bless us and give us life as we do what is right.

Col 3:12-15 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful”. God has called us to be merciful, and forgiving. He has called us to have peace in our relationships. Is there any person that you feel a slight grudge against or feel they have hurt you. Be longsuffering and forgiving, push that unsettled emotion from you and let God’s peace rule in your heart.

Rom 10:12-13 For there is no difference both of Jew and of Greek, for the same Lord of all is rich toward all the ones calling on Him. For everyone, "whoever may call on the name of the Lord will be saved." There is no one richer than God, think about it the bible says in Jesus all things consist, our very being is held together by God. God is not impoverished he has both the will and ability to add to our lives. Note “who ever calls on the lord will be saved”. Do you have problems in your life, difficulties, then call upon the LORD, he has both the will and the power to make the change.

Mal 3:16-17 “Then those fearing Jehovah spoke together, each man to his neighbor. And Jehovah gave attention and heard. And a Book of Remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Jehovah, and for those esteeming His name. And they shall be Mine, says Jehovah of Hosts, for the day that I will make up My treasure. And I will pity them as a man has pity on his son who serves him”. God does not forget the things you have done for him, some times you may feel that God has forgotten you, but there comes season for reward, and God has recorded your every effort. Heb 6:10 “For God is not unjust, to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed to His name”.

Mar 12:30-31 “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these”. Shortly after making this statement Jesus was confronted by a scribe who agreed with his statement, but not with him as a person. Mar 12:34 “And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, “Thou art not far from the kingdom of God”. Agreement with Jesus teachings makes us close to the kingdom, but unless we accept the person of Jesus Christ, and become his disciple we will never benefit from the Kingdom of God. We need to not only agree with ideas presented by faith, we need to get faith, we need to get God.

Mat 18:11-13 “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray”. Rejoiceth is a heartening word, God is exited every time a sinner comes to him in repentance. Straying can be caused unintentionally or with purpose, but no matter how a person get messed up, or lost, God is always out there searching for ways to bring restoration. He may use a person, or he may do it himself, regardless of the method, God is always looking to restore peoples lives, both believer and unbeliever.

Joh 15:7 “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you”. Some times we read that verse and think, “If I keep all of God’s commands, I will ask what I want and it shall be done”. A part of receiving is obedience, but it is not just obedience that gets our prayers answered. It is God’s word, the word of Jesus, his saying we can receive if we ask, his generous offer. None of us were saved because we were righteous, but because God is merciful. In the same way our prayers are answered not because we are perfectly righteous but because God is good and merciful toward us.

Jas 5:16-18 “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit”. Some times that verse makes me wonder, if we are not praying how many blessings are we missing out on, or are we causing others to miss out on. I am sure God does not just sit back in heaven and do nothing if we don’t pray. But still our prayers have the ability to avail much, perform much, do much. I guess if we want to see things happening in our lives we should be praying. And the good news is we don’t need to be a super prayer, or someone amazingly special, “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are”, so every day ordinary people have power when they pray.

Eph 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”. When we invite Jesus into our lives it opens us up to endless possibilities. Mar 10:27 “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible”. His involvement in our lives means that we are opened up to provision and blessing. With these new possibilities we can increase our expectancy. Are there insurmountable problems in life, difficulties for you or others you know. Well God has the ability to help, and with you joined to him, he is looking for opportunities to answer. So let’s all start to believe God for the impossibilities around us. Are you looking for advance, and blessing, then know “he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”.

Remember how Jesus took on the role of a servant with his disciples. Joh 13:14-15 "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you". Obviously this statement is not about feet washing, we don't need to wash one another. But it is about having the attitude of a servant. We all have opportunities to serve one another, whether it is doing the dishes, ironing, or taking out the trash. We should have the attitude of being willing to help those around us, and not thinking that we have the right to boss other people around so we can have it easy. It is a simple thing but it is good for relationships.

What is the christian view of ghosts. Some people believe that when a person dies that they still hang around, and you can communicate with them. Or some people haunt you. The christian view in the bible is quite clear, it says communication with dead people is wrong. The reason being it is not really the dead person, but an evil spirit that has followed them through out life. The bible says when you die, you either go to heaven, or hell, and from those location you can't communicate with other people. God alone is the one we should try to communicate with, if we try anything else we are headed for trouble.

Rom 6:15-16 “What, then, does this mean? Should we go on sinning because we are not under Law but under grace? Of course not! Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?” Did you know that when you sin, you become enslaved by it. You give it power to control you in future. One sin can lead to much sorrow. Why is this? Some times our sin is so bad that God actually delivers us into Satan’s hands for a time that we will learn not to sin. As Paul said in 1Ti 1:20 “Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme”. If you have sinned, and do feel like you are being punished, be aware that God will forgive you and restore you, it is not the end for you. Note the purpose of such a thing: 1Co 5:5 “To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus”. The goal of punishment for sin is salvation that we will become aware that we must be submitted to God, and will change our ways. For if we confess our sins, with an attitude of changing our ways, God will forgive us, and cleanse us from any bondage to it.

Gal 5:16-17 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would”. Some people latch onto that last part of the verse and say “Oh I can’t help sinning, God says we are powerless against sin”. But that is the very opposite of what God actually says about sin. This verse says that if we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfil the earthly lusts. The verse is contrasting life without the Spirit to life with it. Without God in our lives we are powerless against sin. I think back to before I was a Christian and I realise I was utterly powerless against certain sins. I would just naturally fall into various sins, and like it says “so that you can’t do”. I found when I became a Christian I had a choice, I no longer had to be controlled by sin, my past sins had no control over me. As a Christian our life’s cry should be Php 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”, not “I can not do”.

Gal 6:8 “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting”. Sowing in the farming sense generates a harvest, what you plant as a seed, is what you get as a crop. The same applies to our decision making in life. If we live a purely natural life, with no spiritual interest, we will eventually get destruction. But God promises if we continually give our selves to him, we will reap everlasting life. As with any crop it goes through stages of maturity, you can start to see what you are going to get before you have a mature crop. So it is with life, without God life will slowly get worse, with God life will slowly get better.

Eze 33:11 “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” Have you ever been asked “why”. Why implies you are doing some thing that some one else does not understand, and it needs an answer. God does not understand why any one would choose to die, when he offers life. Why will you die, implies there is no need to die, God does not delight in death and hell, so offers life plainly to all who choose to receive it. No matter what stage of life you are at, no matter what sins you have committed, God is saying “why will you die”, just change your current direction. All he requires is that you turn from doing evil (which you may have been pressured into, or chosen for your self) to doing good and you will have life.

Grace, what is it? Grace is the fact that God has made us clean in his sight if we put our trust in Jesus to justify us from our sin. Grace is not the ability however to live in a habit of sin and be justified from it. If we are living in sin we are not doing Gods will. Rom 6:1 “What should we say, then? Should we go on sinning so that grace may increase? Of course not! How can we who died as far as sin is concerned go on living in it? … just as the Messiah was raised from the dead by the Father's glory, we too may live an entirely new life”. The whole purpose of Christ sacrifice is to give us access to God, and his abilities over sin. We must be living a new life in the power of God’s spirit, not a life of sin. Php 3:9 “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection”. Note it is all about the power available to us, not freedom to do as we like.

Do you have any wilful sin in your life? It could be something as simple as Software piracy, downloading illegal movies, or speeding in the car. God says obey “every ordinance” and if you are breaking even a simple law you are not in God’s will. You might think “So what, or who cares”, but to God it is a serious issue. The bible says regarding partaking of communion, 1Co 11:29-32 “For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world”. To discern the Lord’s body means we are aware that every sin, no matter how small has a penalty, some one has to pay, and that sin adds to the suffering of Christ. But what you may not be aware of is the fact that every wilful sin you commit as a Christian, has a penalty for you. It could be emotional weakness, physical sickness, or even in severe cases death. Don’t rationalise your sin away, and say “Oh it does not hurt any one”, many sins can be rationalised in this way, lust, fornication, homosexuality, small sins, like lying, disobedience. But in the end you will suffer for your sin. God allows it so that you are forced to change your ways, so in the end “You should not be condemned with the world”. Why is the world condemned? Because they live in wilful sin, and disobedience, if you do the same do you think you will escape Gods judgment. Note the people in the verse are “not discerning”, did you know you can be a Christian and not even know you are under God’s judgment. We need to be like David and pray: Psa 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”. Abram, did not tell pharaoh that Sarai was his wife, and when pharaoh married her, and he was unwittingly committing adultery, God plagued pharaoh. Pharaoh did not even know he was sinning. Gen 12:17 “And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife”. What sins do you allow that could unwittingly hurt others. God made sure Pharaoh would not sin, pharaoh could not wait to get rid of Sarai, God will do the same with you, even for your small sins. It is simple really just don’t sin. Be black and white, there is no room for grey areas with God, you either sin, or you don’t, there is no mixture.

Deu 18:10 “There shall not be found among you any one that makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch”

In today’s age many of these things are made to appear harmless, or trendy. As an example Horoscopes (observing the times) is quite popular, but why is it wrong. Well the power behind it does not come from God. The devil actually has power to manipulate you if you let him. As an example there was a guy at a place I worked, he read a Horoscope that he would be promoted, with in a week I saw him promoted to a higher position. You might say what is wrong with promotion. But Horoscopes are not just good news they mix the good with bad, allowing Satan to bring destruction upon you, which he delights in. The bible says of Satan, in John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. God want us to have abundant life, and God never prophecies bad over you, only good continually. God has people called prophets, people with the gift to hear from God and tell you of his thoughts and your future. He can even speak to you personally; he told both me and my brother the exact person we would marry before we did, as he has to others I know. He has often told me the future before it happened to me, and I am not a prophet, yet God still prophecies to me personally, as He can to you. However there is nothing wrong with Christian prophets.

What laws should we obey? The bible says Tit 3:1 “Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work”, and 1Pe 2:13-14 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well”. We should be ready to submit ourselves to “every ordinance”. The word “every” gives us no room to pick and choose which laws we should obey. If you break any law no matter how small you are not in the will of God. If you do break any law you need to change your mindset and make yourself ready to do the good instead. For the Lord requires us to be Holy. Heb 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord”. Holiness means “clear, or “chaste” meaning pure free from defect. Don’t let any defect dwell in you.

Did you know that drinking and wild parties are two things listed as showing a person does not know God. 1Co 6:10 “… nor drunkards, nor revilers, … shall inherit the kingdom of God”. Why is this so? Well when a person becomes a Christian their life improves and they have both joy and peace without needing to drink. The bible says Eph 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit”; as a Christian God’s presence (Spirit) in a persons life gives positive attributes Gal 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith”. God’s presence in a life imparts joy and peace, things that are often missing in the lives of an unbeliever. Drink is often a way of escape from unpleasant reality for many people. Pro 31:6 “Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts”. But for the Christian life should be good and they will not need drink. There are times where a Christian’s life is tough, and God withdraws his presence, but those times are only to help us relate to unbelievers, to show them that God ultimately gives us victory over the feeling or situations of lack. Generally a Christian life should be good, much better than when we did not know him.

What does it mean in the bible when it says the husband is the head of the wife. Some people take that statement to mean they are boss, and the wife must do what they say. However that is not Godly headship. Jesus said of leadership. Mat 20:26-27 “You know that the rulers of the gentiles lord it over them and their superiors act like tyrants over them. That's not the way it should be among you. Instead, whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave”. So in order to be a Godly leader the husband’s actual task is to be a servant. Ephesians goes further it adds to the marital duty by saying 5:21 “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God”. So both parties are to submit to each other, or a better way of saying it is to think of one another. It then lists the duties of either party, Eph 5:24-25 “Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it”. So again with this concept the wife thinks of the husband, and does what he wants, but the husband loves the wife and gives of himself sacrificially, a sacrifice is giving up what you want to serve another. So there is no such thing as demanding your wife do as you say, that is not Godly, neither is it Godly for the wife to demand of the husband.

Psa 51:6 "Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.". Believe it or not we can lie to our selves and to others when it comes to knowing God. When I was growing up, I pretended to be a Christian, at high school if my parents or other student asked me was I a christian I would say yes. But it was out of fear, I was not really a Christian at all, but I just feared what it meant to not be one. Many people say I know God, God is a private experience to me, or I am a Christian. But in reality many of these people are like I was lying to them selves and others. To really be a Christian you need to have the inner experience of salvation, a true heart change, where you know you are saved. Where you know you are really a Christian in truth. God greatly desires this truth. Do a heart check can you truthfully say you know God.

Many times in the past my expectations of people were too high. When you expect too much you overlook the value in people. The world tells you you need perfection but the truth is we live in an imperfect world. To be blessed with good relationships we need to be able to daily overlook others faults. This is true not only in existing relationships but also for those looking for new relationships. Don't look for perfection look lower your expectation have mercy on those you would not normally befriend. In doing so you will find what you are looking for. Daily lower your expectation.

2Co 10:3-5 For walking about in flesh, we do not war according to flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful to God to the demolishion of strongholds, the demolishing of arguments and every high thing lifting up itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ

Note that the Christians purpose is not on of physical violence to spread religion. We don’t use weapons of war. We use arguments. How does a fight start, it starts when some one disagrees with us or our principals, we anger them and they want to destroy us to remove our principals. But what if they knew our intentions toward them were only for good, and for blessing.

Pro 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

To prevent conflict we should always respond in love to those who hate us.

Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

In Exodus Israel sinned and God got angry with them, his plan was to make them a great nation. Yet he said to Moses:

Exo 32:10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

I am not interested on focusing on the fact that God got angry, but rather what he said to Moses. "I will make thee a great nation", God was going to give up on using the crowd, and use one man to fullfil his purpose. For us this shows that we as individuals with God can perform great feats. It is not an isolationist view, i.e. I will do every thing with no ones help, but rather a cry to not think that we can't do the impossible or big tasks with God. If you are only thinking of prayers to benefit yourself think larger, the whole world is the Lords, think of the problems in the world, then let God work with you to solve them.

Luke 15:31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

Have you ever considered the position that you have in God’s eyes. Note what Jesus said above when he was telling the story of the son who left God’s house into a life style of sin, but was lovingly restored. The son who had remained in the fathers house was shocked when the father acted so excitedly when his lost son returned, often we judge this son, because his view of the sinning son was so unkind. But regardless of what the son thought, look at his position in God. It was said of him “All that I have is thine”. Some fathers are not good to their sons, but God is good, so good infact that he considers all that he owns belongs to us his sons and daughters. That is a good position to have. We don’t have all of God’s power, or all of his abilities, we are not God, but God does enable us to move from time to time with spiritual power. But all of the wealth and riches of heaven, all of its wisdom, all of its power are imparted to us in Christ. God has never intended that we live in the full power of heaven, but he has intended that we live in its full blessings. The power of heaven reveals God to us, so that we can live in the blessings of heaven.

There is an interesting scripture in 1 John that may change your thinking regarding a sinning Christian.

1Jn 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

Did you know that any sin that is not taken to the grave has God’s forgiveness? Any sin a Christian has committed can be forgiven. God actually requires that we ask for life for the sinning brother. Why well God has not given up on them and wants them restored. Obviously the sin is to be overcome, and not continued in, but God asks that we seek their restoration, and healing. If they are alive they still have time to change.

1Ti 4:8 “For bodily exercise is profitable to a little, but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the present life now, and of that coming”

Exercise is one of those things that is given God like status in today’s society, if you are not exercising many people think you are lazy, uncool, unpopular. The bible however puts things in perspective it says that although exercise has some benefit, being Godly has many more benefits. For us now in this age, living today, and finally in the age to come, eternal life. Note from this verse that God’s blessings are for us today, not just in the future, God wants us to have a good life now, a life that extends happily into the future.

“Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Jesus rule in your hearts” - Col 3:12.

To remain at peace, and keep peace in our relationships, we should always have a forgiving attitude. If some one has offended us, or said something against us we should be quick to pass off their comment, or accusation. By having this patient attitude it enables us too seek their blessing and not harm. As the bible says “Bless and do not curse”. There is always the temptation to say when some one hurts us, oh they deserve some kind of retribution, but God says “Bless and don’t curse”. We should actually pray for God to bless those who hurt us. They usually only act in hurtful ways because they are not aware of or walking in Gods blessing, so the more blessing they receive the better.

We should always be in control of our selves, and our emotions. Times of stress, whether it is an argument, a contentious issue, or even being told to do a task we do not enjoy, has the potential to rise up negative emotions, some people feel anger some feel victimised. We need to be aware when these negative feelings arise that we don’t need to give them dominion over us. We need to let them fall off us like water off a ducks back. It takes practice and I think every one of us are in the learning process, but as a Christian be aware the negative feelings do not come from God, he does not want us angry, or in self-pity. Every time you feel a negative emotion pause, don’t let the feeling overtake you, wait upon God, and you will find it can be replaced with positive emotions, even God’s joy and peace.

Psa 31:24 “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD”.

When ever a negative situation arises we need to train our emotions to see the good, to encourage our selves that we can feel good, for God can strengthen our heart, that inner part of us that feels and chooses. If you do have emotional swings don’t feel condemned just practice waiting on God, when you feel ready to burst. God’s spirit can give you the power to overcome any negative emotion.

Eph 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Eph 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
