Priests should be allowed to marry according to God, to help prevent sexual misconduct.

It is unbiblical to forbid marriage to paritioners

I will show from the bible that it is not a Christian principal for priests to remain unmarried by commandment. I believe to help solve the problem of Child Sexual abuse in the Catholic Church priests should be permitted to marry.

Christians follow the bible so we need to doo a quick study on its passages regarding marriage. Take the following passage, where it was asked should a man of God should marry. Paul said that becasue of the passions in a man a man should marry if they wished, but he felt that he as a man in ministry it was better for him to be single, yet he said this was a special gift he had, not a gift every man should have.

Paul said Men of God marry if you want

1Co 7:1-9 Now about what you asked: "Is it advisable for a man not to marry?" Because sexual immorality is so rampant, every man should have his own wife, and every woman should have her own husband. A husband should fulfill his obligation to his wife, and a wife should do the same for her husband. A wife does not have authority over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband doesn't have authority over his own body, but his wife does. Do not withhold yourselves from each other unless you agree to do so just for a set time, in order to devote yourselves to prayer. Then you should come together again so that Satan does not tempt you through your lack of self-control. But I say this as a concession, not as a command. I would like everyone to be unmarried, like I am. However, each person has a special gift from God, one this and another that. I say to those who are unmarried, especially to widows: It is good for them to remain like me. However, if they cannot control themselves, they should get married, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

The reason why Paul even suggested it was better to not marry is explained in the following passages.

1Co 7:26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.

There was purcecution in Paul's time, where you could be arrested for being a Christian, and this was one reason he remained unmarried, so he could minister freely with out concern for his wife. He also said:

1Co 7:32-36 I want you to be free from concerns. An unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, that is, about how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about things of this world, that is, about how he can please his wife, and so his attention is divided.... I'm saying this for your benefit, not to put a noose around your necks, but to promote good order and unhindered devotion to the Lord.... If a man thinks he is not behaving properly toward his virgin, and if his passion is so strong that he feels he ought to marry her, let him do what he wants; he isn't sinning. Let them get married.

So we see that there are two principals a) If a man of God has passions, he should marry, but if they choose to remain unmarried and server God with all their time, that also is good.

The Bible says Ministers in the Church should be Happily Married

There is also the fact that God likes married men to have positions in the church.

Tit 1:6 An elder must be blameless. He must be the husband of one wife and have children who are believers and who are not accused of having wild lifestyles or of being rebellious.

1Ti 3:2 Therefore, an elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife, stable, sensible, respectable, hospitable to strangers, and teachable.

It is my opinion. That the problem with teaching that priests MUST remain unmarried is that many men in the Catholic Church enter the Ministry with good intentions, but find they can not control their sexuality. Being sexually starved, they prey on the vanerable, those who they think will not destroy their income and life style. I believe that the Catholic Church needs to reform this area and return to the bibles teaching that men of ministry can have wives.
