Random Bible Opening / flicking can it be used to seek God's will.

What is random bible opening? It is opening the bible at random to get direction from God. I was led to do random bible opening initially out of desperation to hear God. But it worked. From then on God used this method often to reveal his will.

God Prevents a Legal Action using Random Bible Selection

One time I thought about suing some one but felt bad about it because I did not want to give a bad impression about what a Christian is like. So I prayed and asked God to show me clearly what to do. Latter that day I opened my bible at random, selecting a random verse and it opened to "Nay, already it is altogether a defect in you, that ye have lawsuits one with another. Why not rather take wrong? why not rather be defrauded?" 1Co 6:7 So I knew what God was thinking, no lawsuit. From this I do not believe God was saying the legal system is wrong just this particular action.

God helps us make a good financial decision

On the 10 of October 2012 the LORD prevented us from making a bad financial decision. Me and my wife had found a house that we thought could be a good investment for our future. But our pastor prayed about it and felt that it was not going to be a good investment. So I prayed that if it was not a good investment God would get the bible to open randomly to James 4:13-15, otherwise the bible would open to the verse in Mal 3:10 about God blessing our finances. I opened my bible on the computer and moved my hand quickly and randomly, first selecting a book of the bible, then a verse, all without looking where I was choosing, and it opened to James 4:13-15 so I knew that God did not want us to go ahead. Jas 4:13-15 “Some of you say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to some city. We will stay there a year, do business, and make money." Listen, think about this: You don't know what will happen tomorrow. Your life is like a fog. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away. So you should say, "If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that."

God confirms success through Random Bible Opening

Scientific Studies on the Gospel

At one point in time God revealed to me how to help overcome the negative thinking that is often put forth from the mouth of the opponents of the gospel. During this prayer time, he led me to find some scientific studies that were done that proove the effectiveness of the gospel in reforming prisioners, these were passed on to people involved in a court case aimed at removing the gospel from schools. Additionally He used imagery from the bible that may not be familiar to all readers of this web page.

The High Court Challenge

I recieved an email from a person in our church asking to sign a survey of support for chaplins in schools. That is a sensible thing to do I thought, becasue the natural things are important. Having the right approach. Being well recieved. I signed the letter and sent on some emails to family asking them to add their support as well. Every voice is very important. Then I thought about prayer.

So I sat infront of my computer after signing the letter of support, and started to pray, and it was as though all hell reared it's head, and I thought to my self this power is unbeatable. But I said to myself, I will not submit to this feeling. So started to pray, and walked around the room, reminding God of the small successes, he had performed in the past, and said in the same way David told Saul I can succed against the Giant Goliath in the same way I can succed against this feeling of hopelessness. Thoughs bombarded my mind you will not succeed, you will fail. But I started to rise my faith up and said to God, the small victories, we can use them as a training ground for bringing down the impossible situations. Like David I said, he slew the Giant, but had trained himself before hand, in worship, praise, and God used his little sling the only talent he had latter on to bring down an enemey of Israel, so I too can try to hear from you, as I have in the past, to bring down this situation.

From time to time I heard God speak, he said "I need a Deputy", and I was thinking what does he mean. Is he saying all those kids are like deputies, under the authority of the law giver, God himself. I did not know, but my thought was directed toward the term Deputy.

After a few hours of praying, I sat down at my computer again and though, I might as well try a google search for it, I typed "God's Deputy". There was a page there http://www.godsdeputy.com, it was talking about God's ability to heal lives, the man was selling videos, I though well I have nothing else to do I might as well listen to his recording at the bottom of the page. In the recording Baker Eddie Morton a prision minister said,

Baker Eddie Morton a prision minister with Unfoldment Inc.
"Welcome to God's deputy home of three great healing ideas, Sermon on the mount the movie, Conquering Fear, and what can I do to be saved. These ideas have been tested and proven to be effective, they were tested for three years with more than two hundred inmates at lanton prision in Viginia as a part of the Unfoldment Incorporated substance abuse program at the prision when the program ended the DC department of corrections reported a 76% reduction in the recidivism rate for inmates who were exposed to these ideas, if these ideas can heal those regarded as the worst among us they can help anybody".

So I though that sounds like a good angle, God heals the worst people in society, and drugs effect youth. So I sent him an email. But it was time to go to bed, my wife had come in and told me it was late. I went into the spare room picked up my bible, and opened it at random to get a word from God before going to bed, as is my habit, and it opened to,

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him." - 1Sa 17:50

This encouraged me, becasue I had just been talking to God about David, and how it is possible to overcome obsicles when we keep our eyes on God's love, and abilities. But my mind was still spinning with negative thoughts, I could not sleep, intense waves of negative thouhts came against my mind, with strong feelings that this God's Deputy is just a newage wirdo, and voices said you only found his site becasuse I was a weirdo too, and he said look at those bright pictures on his website, all newages have bright pictures (trying any thing to throw doubt on it), and over and over he is lying, you will be prooved to be a fool, he has made it up.

But I refused to give in, thinking of the verse I had got from the bible about david triumphing over the philistine, and I said "God's Deputy mentioned 'what can I do to be saved', newages don't believe in salvation, being saved, and the bible", so after much toil I went to sleep. For days I tried in vain to find the study, and Unfoldment Inc. Other nights thoughts kept comming to me judging me silently, saying the chaplins will already have studies like that sort of thing, don't bother them. But I though, no I will see what I can find out so I sent emails to the Virginia prision department in the USA, they said "DC did have Lorton prison located in Virginia; however, the DC Prison System was absorbed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons" - I was a little disheartened becasue I thought maybe the study is old, and hard to find. I found Unfoldment Inc's address on a website, and they were a drug rehabilitation organisation, so this encouraged me I sent them a snail mail, to an address in DC, but there was no reply. I wondered if other studies had been done that were similar, or if they knew of the study. No one that I contacted had heard of the study, yet I did not give up. But one organisation I asked had another study that showed similar sucess rates to the mentioned by Baker Morton, the study showed that people exposed to the teaching of Jesus were far more sucessful in rehabilitation, and and less likely to reoffend once released from prision as an example 15% reoffence rates to people who completed the bible study to 42.2% for those that did not. Over the period of a few days I located the studies below.

In April of 1997, with the full support of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), Prison Fellowship Ministries (PFM) launched an unusual correctional experiment—a Faith-Based Pre-Release Program. The program was distinctive in that it was expressly Christian in orientation. The InnerChange Freedom Initiative (IFI), as it would later be named, was officially launched under the recommendation of then-governor George W. Bush. This unique public-private partnership between TDCJ and PF represented a first for Texas.

Post-Release Recidivism Study
This is a seperate study to the one above. Performed in the 1970's.

Post-release Bible Study and Criminal Recidivism 1975 -1979
The group’s study involved 190 prisoners who between 1975 and 1979 had taken part in Christian discipleship training, and a similar number who had not, matched by age, race, gender and other factors. Both groups had been released from prison eight to 14 years prior to the study.

Study Source
The following is a direct quotation from George Cornell, AP Religion Writer ( The Wilson Daily Times, December 1, 1990)

The group’s study involved 190 prisoners who between 1975 and 1979 had taken part in Christian discipleship training, and a similar number who had not, matched by age, race, gender and other factors. Both groups had been released from prison eight to 14 years prior to the study.

It found that the religion-trained ones had an 11 percentage point lower recidivism rate than the control group. Forty percent of the religion-schooled group committed new offenses, while 51 percent of the others did so.

The religiously trained group also had a longer crime-free period following release, and when they did commit new crimes, the crimes were less severe compared to past offenses. The control group had increased crime-severity.

The recidivism rate for women who took religious training was even lower, only 19 percent, compared to 47 percent among the control group of women. Among men only, the differential was only seven points...

I did eventually make contact with the organisation called Unfoldment Inc, they had moved to Florida. The woman I contacted who was in charge of the Study at Lorton Prision at the time said that her father who was responsible for the spiritual direction of the study had passed away the year before, and she mentioned she would do what she could to get the study. As for the tiny website selling videos she was not even aware that her father who she loved dearly had made it. But I believe God wanted that study, but not only that, to let her know that her fathers legacy lives on. When I asked for a verse of encouragement from the bible for her I got, "A seed shall serve him; It shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation. They shall come and shall declare his righteousness Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it". - Psa 22:30-31 So I encouraged her in the LORD that their work was still able to change lives, to a "Generation .. that shall be born".

As a final reference to previously opening the bible to the passage about david and goliath (see story above). As a funny little coincidence I was at my sisters house and reading books to my nephew about numbers, counting, writting etc, and then he got out the childrens bible, and I opened it at random, and it opened to the story of David slaying Goliath in pictures. So even with his little picture book God was able to open to a page to strengthen my faith, the exact same passage he opened to a few nights before in a normal bible. So next time a giant arises if it is Gods will and his purpose, for in God we are led peacebly into victory. It does not need to be a struggle. Some things God just lets us do easily and other times well it requires a knowledge of God's character of faithfulness to not give up in the heat of the battle. For even Jesus was lead into the desert to be tempted by satan, there will always be temptations to give up, to quit, and return to the old life. But the new life is better than the old, and leads to eternal life, and victory.

Matthew 14:13-14 and God's View

On the 5 March 2014 I sought God to know if I was teaching correctly regarding the verses in Mathew 14:13-14, I had always thought that more rather than less people would be saved, Due to Gods nature of love. However Mathew 14:13-14 at first glance seemed to contradict this view. I was concerned because God says he is love, and we should love others, yet sending the majority of the world to hell did not seem like a loving thing to do. So I asked God sincerely to show me which of the two ideas was true, mine of love not sending most to hell, or other peoples of strict judgment, God only saving a few. I ask God when I randomly open the bible I want it to open to either 1 John 4:16 Speaking of God is love (to show me God is more loving), or Mathew 14:13-14 speaking of judgment (to show me only a few will be saved). When I prayed and randomly opened the bible it opened to 1 John 4:16, a miracle, yet it showed me that God is more loving not more judgmental, so not only a few will be saved in my opinion. So what is my interpretation of Mathew 14:13-14. The verses are as follows:

Mat 7:13-15 Go in through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are the ones entering in through it. For narrow is the gate, and constricted is the way that leads away into life, and few are the ones finding it. But beware of the false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are plundering wolves.

Note Jesus seems to be talking about the teachers of his day. i.e. Beware of False Prophets. If you read Mathew 12 Jesus is saying true teaching is to love one another. Yet he is saying most people are teaching things that lead to destruction. Few people are actually teaching what leads to life. The “ones finding”, and “the ones entering”, may well be the teachers he is referring to.

The Lost Sheep and Bible Opening

Some time in May 2011. I decided I would open my bible at random again, it opened to: How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray. - Mat 18:12-13 That verse really began to direct my prayer and over the coming days as I realised that God rejoiced greatly over sinners with his love, all kinds of even bad sinners. I had been praying for a while and was a little tired, so I was thanking God for his mercy specifically I was saying “thanks for the verse about the hundred sheep, you are so good to rejoice over sinners”, and decided to have a rest on my bed. I though I will open the bible randomly again. And guess what it opened to the verse I was thanking God for: How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoice over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray. - Mat 18:12-13

Julia Gillard and God

Julia Gillard our Prime Minister is known to be an Atheist. Atheists can often be very anti God having been taught a very warped view of God. They do have some benefits in the fact that they value human achievement, they often focus on achievements. God also wants us to achieve in life and encouages people in their goals. You can't call an Atheist evil, but it is just dangerous to remove God from life, Gods teaching is all about how to live life effectively, in forgivness, love, and justice. So what was God's message to Jullia Gillard. Well I sent her an online letter with some of my stories, and asked God for a message for her. I had always been critical of Julia because I did not like the fact she was an atheist. But when I ask God for a verse from the bible it was not condemning at all. He gave me the final verse from the story of the prodigal son in the bible. As follows: Luke 15:20 "And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him". If you have never read that story from the bible I will explain it. It is a story of a son who was living with his father, the son told his father I want my share of the inheritance. The son then took the money went into a far away land and spent the money on wild parties, and sinful living. However the son ran out of money and was in want. He said to himself back at my fathers house is food, shelter etc, I will return and tell my father I have sinned, and will become one of his slaves. But the father had been waiting, watching for his son to return, when the father saw the son a long distance off the ran to meet the son and kissed him. The father put on him the best dress, and his best ring. The father was not at all displeased with his son. Jesus told this story to let us know what God thinks of people. He loves them, waits for them, and does not punish them when they sin. In the same way Julia Gillard is seen as one of God's precious children.

God and Iran

I was praying for all Muslim countries on the 27 of February, and specifically for the president of Iran, which I do whenever I pray for them. That God might bring them to salvation that can only be found in the Love and mercy of Jesus Christ. Like the bible says there is no other name given under heaven or earth by which man can be saved. I went into the kitchen, and asked the LORD for a verse of scripture for him, I opened the bible up to a verse, It was quite condemning, so I said LORD you must be able to have more mercy than that. So I opened up the bible again and it opened to "Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is." - Amo 5:14. I was not sure if either of the verses were for him, so I did not send anything. The next day I was having a break from work and thought of him again. So I prayed LORD do you have anything that I can send to bless him with. This time I was on the computer so I used my electronic bible, a different one to the night before. I randomly selected a verse, not looking at where I was choosing and it rested on the exact same verse I had received the night before. "Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is." - Amo 5:14 So I knew God had chosen that verse for him. So I sent him the verse of scripture and an encouragement to seek Jesus. Then on the 6th of March a Sunday I set about praying and fasting, and prayed for the president and all the members of his parliament, again I said LORD give me a verse for them, bless them and bring them to you, even if they have resisted you, just bless them with salvation. I opened the bible and again, and my finger rested on "Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is." - Amo 5:14 I have to admit I am not sure what God's plans are for them, I know they are good because God rejoices over the lost, but I feel these verses sum up the attitude it is wise for any one to have who has to make a choice between the approval of man and the true approval of God, "The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life. Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD". Pro 16:17-20. In closing the final verse that I have been given is With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the High God?...He has shown you O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God - Micha 6:6

God and eating Pork

One day I was witnessing to a Muslim and he asked me why we ate pork. I used the verse out of the bible which says "It is not what enters the mouth that defiles a man but what comes out of the mouth". After some general discussion I finished for the night. I asked God to give me a verse from the bible to encourage me. I opened the bible at random and selected a random verse. It opened to the exact same verse that I had used with the Muslim. The one about food not defiling. So I knew that God was approving of what I had been talking about. What goes into a persons mouth does not make them 'unclean,' but what comes out of their mouth, that is what makes them unclean.'- Mat 15:11

John 8 - God's love for the Adulterous Woman

In june 2011 I came accross a post on a forum asking Muslums if adulterers should be stoned to death. I.e. have rocks thrown at them until they die. According to Muslum law it is a just penalty. The Muslums on the forum said they should be stoned no argument. I was opposed to the idea believing Jesus showed us the true example of how we should treat sinners which was to show forgiveness, as shown in John chapter 8 in the bible. I will first share the story of what Jesus did.

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" ...When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."- Joh 8:3-11

So Jesus basically said no one is perfect, and we should be willing to forgive peoples sins. He did tell her to go and sin no more so he was not condoning sin. He was just not judgmental, but rather loving. However there are a lot of people in the world that do not even believe the story is inspired by God. They believe it was added to the bible in the 4th century. 400 years after Christ. Some one confronted me with this idea, and I did not know what to do so I went away and researched it. I found that there were agruments for both sides and both sides made good points. So I was confused did Jesus really do it or not. I did not want to just believe in a story because I was told it was true. So I prayed for a night and ask God to reveal to me by opening the bible at random whether it was true or not. I said "If it opens to the verse about the Adulterer, then I will know it is from you", I said "If it opens to the verse in the bible about not one jot or tidle passing from the law until all is accomplished I will know you did not do it". So I tried it around twice, but nothing happened. I went to bed and prayed more. The next day I got up and researched the topic for hours. But could come to no conclusion based upon my research. So I went away and prayed again. I opened the bible twice at random and still nothing. Then I prayed and said to God, "Look God I am not doing this from an unbelieving heart, or trying to seek a sign for a signs sake, I just want to know the truth, show me the truth, did you do it or not, if you show me no then I will believe no, just tell me the truth". So I opened the bible at random one last time, and guess what it opened to John Chapter 8. John chapter 8 is the story of Jesus forgiving the adulterous woman. So God did eventually answer my prayer, and he showed me that the scripture was indeed true, that Jesus did perform the act of forgiveness. This occured on 11 June 2011.

God and Giving

I had a client at work (who was a non Christian at the time) and was wanting to build a web site from which to give 20% to charity. There was only one problem in my eyes he was using his site to support his local watering holes, i.e. pubs and clubs. So I went to God in prayer. I decided to open the bible at random to get a direct word of the LORD for him, to know whether I should continue to support his project, because I felt that the drinking side of things might negatively impact some people. I opened the bible and put my finger on a verse on the page it was In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: "It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"- Act 20:35. So Jesus gave me it was “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. So from that I knew God was really pleased with his heart attitude, and I believe will bless him, regardless of the faults in terms of drinking. I am still undecided however as to whether God really would have liked me to support the drinking side of it. I know obviously he does not want us to drink. But I guess that is enough rambling for now. Hopefully you get the point God loves him. If you want help him, and just need a few page web site that you can edit your self go to Grid Galaxy
